St Mary's College, rated “outstanding” by Ofsted in July 2010, is the only specialist Training School in Hull. This means that we are not only committed to providing the highest quality professional development for our own staff, but we also aim for excellence in our initial teacher training programmes and our outreach work. We have forged partnerships with local primaries, secondaries, public services and businesses to provide training opportunities across the city. All our efforts are ultimately geared towards providing our learners, and those across Hull, with the best possible education and preparation for life.
We hope that this new website will be of use in various ways:
- To advertise information about forthcoming INSET and professional development opportunities. - To disseminate some of the important action research carried out by our staff. - To share information with our partner schools and other agencies. - To provide a resource bank of useful training materials on a range of educational matters.
Some of the most important aspects of our current outreach activity include:
1. School Direct Route into Teacher Training - we are working with Leeds Trinity University College to offer ten training places leading to PGCE with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) from September 2012. Find out more here.
2. Middle Leadership Development Programme – a training programme for 20 new and aspiring Middle Leaders in local primary and secondary schools.
3. Graduate Teacher Programme – coordinating the secondary level programme for Hull citywide GTP partnership.
4. Teacher Taster Days - we offer potential ITT applicants the chance to spend time in school as part of the TDA's School Experience programme.
We are also currently developing further outreach programmes, including the following ones in 2012 on behalf of the National College:
4. The Improving Teacher Programme (ITP)
5. The Outstanding Teacher Programme (OTP)
